Just a ten minute drive from Playa Tamarindo on Costa Rica's Pacific coast, Hacienda Valle Solo offers everything you will need for a relaxing stay. The main house has a full kitchen, a living area to relax and watch TV, and a dining area that seats 8.
The expansive porch wraps around three sides of the house and has an outdoor dining table, rocking chairs, and unencumbered views of the mountains and ocean.
Head towards the infinity pool and you'll find a refreshing outdoor shower to wash off sand from the beach or just cool off from the mid-day heat. At the pool you'll find a lovely thatched roof "rancho", perfect for throwing out a yoga mat or relaxing in the hammock or lounge chairs. Grill dinner on the barbecue or bake a pizza in the wood-fired oven.
The 160 acres around the house offer plenty of room to explore and discover the abundant and varied fauna and flora of the area. Several examples of the majestic Guanacaste tree, for which the province is named, can be found on the property along with the fascinating symbiosis of the bull thorn acacia and its ant inhabitants and protectors (watch out, they bite!). Monkeys, birds and iguanas are plentiful and you'll often hear the howler monkeys' unique call in the early morning.
The nature trail, just to the north of the house, is a five minute climb up to Vista Valle Solo for the best view of the surrounding countryside.

Within 30 minutes of our hilltop retreat are beaches that offer a full range of restaurants, surfing classes, trail rides and shopping, as well as isolated stretches of white sand and secluded coves. Some of our favorites include Playas Avellanas for surfing and Lola's Cafe, Playas Minas and Ventanas for privacy and relaxed swimming and sunbathing, and Playa Conchal for snorkeling among the rocks right off shore. During the months of December through February, visit Playa Grande for guided evening tours to see the giant Leatherback turtles come ashore to carve out nests and lay their eggs-a true bucket list item. Spend a few hours kayaking through the mangrove estuary behind Playa Tamarindo in Baulas National Park, arrange for sunset tours by catamaran, or charter a boat to go sport fishing for marlin, sailfish and mahi mahi. On our last trip in June of 2021 we caught five marlin with Rhino Charger Sport fishing, https://www.rhinocharger.com.
From Hacienda Valle Solo it's an easy day trip to visit any of several outstanding national parks and nature reserves. Palo Verde National Park is a bird watchers dream, or hike around Rincon de la Vieja, a volcano just north of Liberia, where you'll find hot springs, mud baths, beautiful rivers and waterfalls. Go caving at Barra Honda National Park 90 minutes to the south, or take a boat trip down the Tempisque river from El Viejo, a family run nature reserve in nearby Filadelfia, for more fabulous bird life, https://www.elviejowetlands.com
There are several well stocked supermarkets within minutes of Hacienda Valle Solo where you can find all you will need to prepare delicious meals on the hillside. Visit the fruit market just down the road in Villarreal for unbeatable papayas, pineapples and watermelon. Don't feel like cooking, Tamarindo offers a variety of restaurants ranging from fine cuisine to fast food. On Saturdays, the farmer's market and artisan fair draws crowds in Tamarindo and offers a great selection of locally made food and crafts.
